THE 2010 National Workcamps for the Church of the Brethren have been announced.  The Brethren Revival Fellowship Senior High Workcamps will be:

  • Dominican Republic — June 20-27, 2010.   Cost $695.

Although the Dominican Republic suffers from widespread poverty and the effects of political corruption, it is a place rich in culture and spirit. Since the early 1980’s, the Church of the Brethren has maintained a presence in the DR, learning, working, and worshiping side by side with Dominican Brethren. We will assist their Vacation Bible School program, an event that draws approximately 3,000 children each summer throughout the churches. By helping with crafts, singing, and recreation, we will get to know our Dominican brothers and sisters, and experience the joy of the Iglesia de los Hermanos in the DR! Come with open and generous hearts, prepared to learn and grow in faith.

  • Reynosa, Mexico — July 31-August 7, 2010.  Cost $695.

Children’s Haven International provides housing and a stable living environment for children in Reynosa, Mexico.  We will live, eat and work at the home, providing extra love and attention for the children.  Our work will also involve light construction and maintenance of the facility, as well as outreach projects in the city of Reynosa. This workcamp provides a lot of opportunity for interaction with the children and house-parents that live at the home. Come with your Spanish dictionary in hand and a eagerness to learn about the economic and social conditions of the border communities.

These eight day workcamps are for those youth who identify with the views of the BRF. Conservative, evangelical ideals, including a modest dress code, will be emphasized throughout the week under BRF leadership.

Senior high workcamps are open to those who have completed grade 9 through one year out of high school.  The registration opens on January 25, 2010 at 7 p.m., CST (that’s 8 p.m., EST).  Be prepared to register immediately, as in 2009 the registration was closed for the BRF Workcamp in about half an hour!

UPDATE: This has been corrected. Both workcamps are the same cost.
